Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was was raised in Barcelona. Her eclectic musical style has earned her the moniker of "atypical pop star". When she was of thirteen, she fell in fascination with Spanish folk music and enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings as well as music bars. Rosalia is a musician who explored urbano music through her albums of 2019 "Con Altura", and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", was a global hit. The singer gave reggaeton a unique twist on her third album Motomami (2022) and departed from the modern flamenco sound of its predecessor. The album garnered international attention with its singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and was subsequently the top-rated album of the year on Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten number one singles in her native country in the span of her entire career. This is the highest number she has ever achieved for an artist from the country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year wins), four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been given to her. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. In 2019, Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award for "changing the music of the present day music through her unique flamenco-influenced pop",[18and was the first Spanish-singing act in the history of music to be nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammy Awards. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. The family she was born into has no artistic background She is the eldest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business specialised in metalworks. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). The couple split in 2019. The older sister Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative brain. Rosalia expressed interest in the performing arts from an early age, particularly after discovering the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her music education at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a six-year program in the academy. She began attending class at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Also, she worked in a private capacity as a performer at weddings, bars with music as well as other events. The pay was "a just over 80 euros or in exchange for a meal".
